4/16 Blog 3: Mount Eerie
This week went surprisingly well. Believe it or not, I learned Sweden! Well, I learned what was taught in the YouTube video I followed and it isn't technically all of it, but it is definitely something, I guess...
As complicated as it seemed to me at my current "not-so-great" skill level, I played it and I am very happy with the results. It is a big leap from the standard Ode to Joy and Hot Cross Buns. I always tend to get ahead of myself, trying to force myself to do things that might be out of my reach. However, this was not the case, as you can see, for it paid off! Learning to play these parts of Sweden really accelerated my muscle memory. I had what is known as a "fat finger," always pressing two wrong keys at once, but constantly practicing has treated it to a point in which I am almost cured.
The next song I have decided to learn is a slower, chord-focused song. I want to familiarize myself with more chords and I feel like this is the best way to do so. I have chosen Flaming Home by Mount Eerie (Phil Everum). To know which chords I need to play, I used an app called Chordify. It was a lifesaver, providing intuitive directions on what chord to play at what time.
Starting was difficult, as always. For example, whenever I was supposed to play these three notes together

Kevin, you seem to really be improving. I can relate with your issues on hitting the wrong cord. It might be a bit frustrating, but just keep practicing. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI can see the great progress you have made, and I encourage you to keep going and endure through the hardships that you will face. Nice Job so far, good luck.
